Providing Access To Justice

Our Impact

Our work would not be possible without the generous support of volunteers, grantors, donors, and community partners.

Legal Link Releases Multi-State Evaluation of Legal First Aid, Showing Large Gains in Legal Capability for Frontline Advocates

From 2024–2025, Legal Link led a four-state evaluation of its Legal First Aid training in partnership with:

  • Lowcountry Legal Volunteers in South Carolina
  • Michigan Legal Help
  • Oklahoma Access to Justice Foundation

And, various community partners in California.

The five-hour training was designed to help nonlawyer navigators recognize justiciable civil legal issues, understand their role, and connect clients to appropriate legal resources.

The evaluation shows large improvements in participants’ legal knowledge and confidence, with:

  • Overall legal capability scores rising from 54 to 76 on a 100-point scale and 91% of participants reporting an improvement.
  • Overall satisfaction with Legal First Aid was very high with 91% of participants being either “very” or “extremely satisfied” with the training,
  • A Net Promoter Score of 79 which is considered “world class” compared to the legal sector standard of 32.

These results suggest that Legal First Aid is a powerful and scalable strategy for strengthening community-based responses to civil legal problems and improving outcomes for clients most affected by poverty and injustice.

We would also like to thank a generous grant received from the Georgetown Center for Law which not only allowed us to participate in Legal Link but enabled us to launch our Justice Navigator program in 2025. In addition, we would also like to thank Tanina Rostain, Agnes Williams Sesquicentennial Professor of Justice Innovation at Georgetown Law, for her mentorship and ongoing guidance in support of our Justice Navigator program.
