Summer, Community, and Access to Justice
Beyond 25 Years of Justice
Dear Friends,
Summer in the Lowcountry is a season of connection. Families gather for reunions and cookouts, children enjoy time out of school, and neighbors come together to celebrate the communities we call home. It’s a time to appreciate what matters most—and to remember that strong communities are built when everyone has access to the support and resources they need to thrive.
At Lowcountry Legal Volunteers, we see every day how access to justice can change lives. Whether helping a survivor of domestic violence find safety, assisting a family facing housing instability, supporting a veteran in need of legal guidance, helping seniors preserve their independence, or working alongside healthcare providers to address legal barriers affecting a patient’s well-being, our goal is simple: to ensure that everyone in our community has access to the legal help they need, regardless of their ability to pay.
The legal challenges our clients face often extend far beyond the courtroom. They affect housing, health, family relationships, financial stability, and future opportunities. Through our network of volunteer attorneys and community partners, we help individuals and families navigate these challenges and move forward with confidence, dignity, and hope.
As we continue our mission of serving Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties, we remain inspired by the resilience of our clients and the generosity of those who make this work possible. Every volunteer hour, every donation, every grant, and every community partnership helps us reach more people and expand access to justice throughout the Lowcountry.
We are deeply grateful to all of our grantors, foundations, donors, volunteer attorneys, community partners, and supporters who invest in our mission. Their commitment allows us to provide critical civil legal services to individuals and families who might otherwise face legal challenges alone. We are especially thankful to the South Carolina Bar Foundation for its continued support of civil legal aid and access to justice across South Carolina.
The success of Lowcountry Legal Volunteers is built on collaboration. We are proud to work alongside an incredible network of organizations, agencies, law firms, healthcare providers, and community leaders who share our vision of a stronger and more equitable Lowcountry. As we enjoy the longer days and warmer weather of summer, I invite you to reflect on the impact we can make when we work together. Because of supporters like you, families are finding stability, survivors are finding safety, veterans are receiving assistance, and neighbors are finding hope during difficult times.
Thank you for being part of the Lowcountry Legal Volunteers family. Together, we are building stronger families, stronger communities, and a more just Lowcountry for generations to come.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and memorable summer.
With gratitude,

Anne Caywood
