Providing Access To Justice

Director’s Message

Summer, Family, and Peace of Mind

Beyond 25 Years of Justice

Dear Friends,

Summer in the Lowcountry is a time for family reunions, cookouts, fishing trips, and gathering with the people we love. It’s a season that reminds us where we come from—and why it’s so important to protect what matters most.

At Lowcountry Legal Volunteers, we help our neighbors navigate life’s challenges every day. From assisting survivors of domestic violence and helping families through difficult legal matters to protecting tenants from unlawful evictions and preserving stable housing, our mission is rooted in strengthening families and communities across Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties.

This summer, we’re also encouraging residents to take an important step that is often easy to put off: creating a will and a health care power of attorney.

Many people think estate planning is something to worry about later. The truth is, these simple documents can provide peace of mind today. They help ensure your wishes are honored, your loved ones are protected, and your family avoids unnecessary stress in the future.

For many Lowcountry families, planning ahead also means protecting family land, preserving cherished homes, and keeping hard-earned assets in the family for generations to come. A will is more than a legal document—it’s a way to safeguard your legacy and pass along the values, memories, and opportunities that matter most.

Whether you’re a young parent, a veteran, a grandparent, or someone simply thinking about the future, everyone deserves the chance to put a plan in place. Thanks to our volunteer attorneys, community partners, and supporters, we’re helping make these important legal protections accessible to those who need them most.

As you enjoy the longer days of summer, we hope you’ll take a moment to think about your own future and the future of those you love. Sometimes one small step today can make a world of difference tomorrow.

Thank you for being part of our Lowcountry Legal Volunteers family. Together, we’re building stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger Lowcountry.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and memorable summer.

With gratitude,

A_Caywood
